Pepe, a young upstart, arrives in town, immediately creating hostility when he tries to force the townspeople to change their ways. He seeks refuge in the home of his Aunt Dona Perfecta, only to learn she opposes his liberal ideas more than anyone. Tempers rise, accusation fly, and things become worse when love arises between Pepe and his cousin Rosario. En el México de los años de la Reforma la llegada de Pepe rey, un joven agronomo liberal, al pueblo de Santa Fe provoca la hostilidad de los conservadores vecinos del lugar.
