| Item Description |
Everywhere in a large Polish city, each square meter of valuable, vacant land is quickly disappearing to new construction and greedy land developers. In the middle of it all, one man, Marian Kosela (played by Andrzej Grabowski), remains seemingly untouched on his large farm, still growing his tomatoes. Developers seem ready to jump and buy the farm at once. But money is not so important for Marian Kosela; rather, he worries about the future for his daughter and son, Zosia and Janek, both intelligent and beautiful children, who apparently don't want to settle on the family farm. How will the Kosela's resolve this dilemma? All is explained in this new comedy by Piotr Weresniak.
Language: Polish, with English subtitles Director: Piotr Weresniak Release Date: 2003 Run Time: 85 min.

Richard J.Brzostek - 05/01/2007 A great new (2003) Polish comedy, July 19, 2005
"Let's Have a Grandson" (Zrobmy Sobie Wnuka) is a comedy that blends tradition with innovation. Much like "Legacy of Steel," this film is about parents that hope their children will settle down and make them grandparents. The similarities pretty much end there as there is a much different spin on this theme here.
The parents are old school farmers, their land is surrounded by a large city, and their modern children have little interest in continuing the family farming tradition. The kids are interested in the land, but only to sell it. The parents will only add their children to the property's deed when they are married, have kids, and continue working the land. With this information, the children's race to the altar begins for Janik and Zoska. Although the situations that follow border on ridiculous, they are just barely within the realm of believability.
The acting in "Zrobmy Sobie Wnuka" is great and the movie is very funny. Two performances really stood out; Zbigniew Zamachowski (the man Zoska picks to marry) and Katarzyna Bujakiewicz (the woman Janik decides to pursue). Zbigniew tends to brings both a dramatic and humorous element to his film work, and this one is no exception. Katarzyna, who is not new to great Polish films (some of which include "Stacja," "R?b swoje, ryzyko jest twoje," and "Stara basn. Kiedy slonce bylo bogiem"), has a more prominent role this time. I would suspect that we will see much more of her in the future. |
